Court marriage in Delhi: must follow some steps
Both parties must be of marriageable age—girls 18 and boys 21 years old at the time of marriage—and should not be related to each other within the prohibited degree of relationship as specified in the Act.
The couple must give notice of their intention to marry the marriage officer of the district in which at least one of them has resided for a period of 30 days. This notice is then displayed on the notice board of the marriage officer’s office for 30 days.
If there are no objections to the marriage, the couple can proceed with the marriage ceremony. If there are objections, the marriage officer will investigate and decide if the marriage can proceed.
The couple must appear before the marriage officer on the date fixed by him/her and present the required documents, including proof of age, residence, and identity.
The couple must present three witnesses with ID proof who are over 21 years of age.
The marriage officer will then record the statements of the couple and the witnesses, and if satisfied that all the conditions for a valid marriage have been met, will register the marriage. Your marriage will be solemnized, and you will receive a marriage certificate.
